"I have often thought that if photography were difficult in the true sense of the term -- meaning that the creation of a simple photograph would entail as much time and effort as the production of a good watercolor or etching -- there would be a vast improvement in total output. The sheer ease with which we can produce a superficial image often leads to creative disaster."
Ansel Adams (1902 - 1984)

Gavin O'Neill Photographer in France

I'm a photographer Model Mayhem, from new Zealand, but i now live between Paris (9 months a year) and Sydney (3 months). I have taught myself photography, mainly because of where I grew up there wasn't anybody shooting anything decent to inspire me, and because I'm a Leo, so I'd rather do it myself anyway.
I do mostly beauty, swimwear and nude,
for many magazines (mostly in Australia and Europe) and work regularly in Paris, Sydney, London, Germany and occasionally the USA. I also retouch most of my own work, so it means I have no life, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Quotes I (Gavin) like:

"Whether you think you can or you cant, either way you are right." - (Henry Ford)

"Regardless of shutter speed, spirit always freezes itself long enough for the photographer it has chosen." - (Minor White)

"100% is still a limit!" - (Gavin O'Neill)

Editorial has appeared in Amica, Vogue, Marie Claire, Black+White, MAX, GQ, Cosmopolitan Maxim, HArpers Bazaar......and commercial work includes Wella, Revlon, L'Oreal, Coca-Cola, Braun, Seimens and LUX.

ESCALANTE PHOTOGRAPHY. . .

I am constantly testing and updating my portfolio, I feel that fashion as well as any other art has to be kept up with , especialy in the field I work in.
The networking as well as the pool of ideas that one can gather from being around others with like goals and talents.
I am the artist and the photographer so I am extremely particular as to what models I use for the creative concepts I come up with for publications. I do not collaborate with models on shooting concepts, (it is their job to become what is called for in the booking) If I do collaborate on any shoot it would be with my creative team/make up artist/stylist / hair stylist, who I trust and who I have worked with for several yrs.
This is securing the creative Vision of the publication submission as it is being produced.
When emailing me for information concerning my rates and services, please include your contact number. I’m not into dealing with long threads of email exchanges or emailing boyfriends, husbands or Internet managers, I want to talk to you.
Emails without this basic info will be deleted.
ESCALANTE ON MODEL MAYHEM
ESCALANTE PHOTOGRAPHY
I think photographs should be provocative and not tell you what you already know. It takes no great powers or magic to reproduce somebody's face in a photograph. The magic is in seeing people in new ways."
-Duane Michals
"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." - Coco Chanel
